So, this is my first post, I was prompted to do this because there needs to be some not government controlled account of then flood caused by hurricane Irene in Schoharie Valley. My name is Tyler Schultz, I’m a senior at Schoharie Central School, and I want nothing more than to get out of this little town, but it seems as though someone had other plans, for now we’re not sure if the town will be clear so that we can start school. More than 3/4 of the town were destroyed when the creek flooded. Several of my friends are now without homes, the pastors at our church are with a home, the district attorney is without a home and is already planning on moving out of the valley. Today I took a good lap through town, if it serene’t for all the people out cleaning then it would feel as though the world had ended due to the post-apocalyptic feel of the town right now. What we need is for the government to realise that we were hit harder here than anywhere else in those god damned country, and that we need as much aid as they can send us, and then some more. While the school here in Schoharie should be done and open on time, our neighbors in Middleburgh aren’t so lucky, they had water through the entire first floor of the school, so they might be delayed to open by some time, no one’s quite sure when yet. The good news about Middleburgh is that literally everyone is out there helping clean up. Down in Schoharie we still have some people just walking around and hawking at the destruction that took place there, it’s almost kind of embarrassing because they’re seeing us at our weakest moment, if they were to come back in a week or so when we’ve got then streets cleaned up, then they’d see a whole different town, one full of people that won’t give up no matter how bad things get. That’s the Schoharie that I grew up with and that’s the way I like to see it. Not only was the major part of our town destroyed, along with it went the majority of crops that the Schoharie valley farmers had planted in the ground. Now that we’ve lost everything I think it’s time for the town to rebuild itself bigger and better than ever, i’ll head down again tomorrow to see how the clean up goes and lut my hands to work for the greater good. I’ll have more to speak of then.
